Dashes mark days that don't exist. February 29 has a card too, worked out like any other date: 2 + 29 + 2027 = 2058 → 2 + 0 + 5 + 8 = 15, The Devil.
How your 2027 year card is worked out
Add your birth month, your birth day and 2027, then add the digits of the total until you reach 22 or less. Your birth year never enters the sum, which is why the chart needs only a month and a day. For November 28:
2027: 11 + 28 + 2027 = 2066 → 2 + 0 + 6 + 6 = 14 → Temperance
In 2027 the totals run from 2029 (January 1) to 2070 (December 31), and every one of them reduces to a number between 5 and 17. That is why the chart holds only 13 different cards: The Magician, The High Priestess, The Empress, The Emperor, The Moon, The Sun, Judgement, The World and The Fool can't come up as a 2027 year card. Reading the pattern in the chart
Only your month and day total matters, so dates that add up to the same number share a card. January 10, February 9 and March 8 all add up to 11, and all three get Death in 2027.
Take one step along a row or down a column and the total goes up by one, so the card goes up by one. When the total reaches 2030, 2040, 2050, 2060 or 2070, the digits reset and the card drops back by eight. January shows it: 13 on January 1, then 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 from January 2 to January 11, then back to 6 on January 12.

The Hermit and Death are the most common 2027 year cards, with 41 birthdays each, followed by Justice and Temperance with 40. At the other end, The Hierophant belongs to only two birthdays (January 2 and February 1) and The Star to one (December 30).
What changes from 2026?
If you know your 2026 year card, your 2027 card is usually the next one up. That is true for 329 of the 366 birthdays: Wheel of Fortune becomes Justice, Justice becomes The Hanged Man, and so on up the Major Arcana.
The other 37 birthdays fall back by eight. They are the dates whose month and day add up to 3, 13, 23, 33 or 43 (January 2, January 12 and December 31 are three of them), and for them Death becomes The Hierophant, Temperance becomes The Lovers, The Devil becomes The Chariot, The Tower becomes Strength and The Star becomes The Hermit.
Does the 2027 card start on January 1 or on your birthday?
The chart gives the same card either way; only the start date moves. If you follow the calendar year, your card applies from January 1, 2027. If you count from birthday to birthday, it starts on your 2027 birthday and you stay in your 2026 card until then. How readers use both approaches.
