The Tower Tarot Year Card
A year when shaky structures fall and sudden clarity arrives.
What a Tower year means
The Tower is struck by lightning, its crown blown off and figures falling from its windows. As a year card it can sound alarming, but it describes something useful: a year when false structures are exposed and change happens quickly. Plans built on weak foundations get tested, and truths that have been avoided come into the open.
Tower years are often remembered as turning points. What falls was rarely as solid as it looked, and the clarity afterwards can be a relief. The card asks you to stop propping up what isn't working and to build again on more honest ground.
Sixteen reduces to 7, The Chariot, the background theme: after the shake-up you can move forward quickly, in a direction that is truly your own.
Work, love and inner life
Work and money: Sudden changes, restructures and breakthroughs. Plans may change fast, so flexibility is an asset.
Love and relationships: Honest revelations and the end of pretence. Relationships that come through it tend to come out stronger.
Inner life: Breakthrough insights, dropping illusions, and rebuilding your beliefs from the ground up.
Gifts of a Tower year
- Sudden clarity about what isn't working.
- Breaking free from a situation that limited you.
- A chance to rebuild on honest foundations.
- Energy released by dropping pretence.
What to watch for
- Reacting in panic instead of responding.
- Rebuilding the same structure exactly as it was.
- Tearing things down because change feels exciting.
- Ignoring warning signs until they force your hand.
Working with your Tower year
- Look for cracks early: where are you pretending things are fine?
- Keep some savings and flexibility for sudden change.
- After any upheaval, pause before rebuilding and decide what is worth keeping.
Questions to reflect on
- What in my life is built on a weak foundation?
- What truth have I been avoiding?
- If something fell away this year, what would I build instead?
Who has The Tower as their year card in 2026 and 2027?
With Greer's method your year card depends only on what your birth month and day add up to. In 2026, The Tower is the year card for anyone whose month + day comes to 33 or 42: 11 birthdays. In 2027 the totals are 32 or 41, which gives 14 birthdays.
March 30, 2026: 3 + 30 + 2026 = 2059 → 2 + 0 + 5 + 9 = 16 → The Tower

Before and after a Tower year
Everyone with The Tower in 2026 had The Devil as their 2025 year card, and in 2027, 10 move on to Strength and 1 move on to The Star. Most years the card moves forward one step, but when your total crosses into a new decade (2049 to 2050, for example) the digits reset and the card drops back. That is why some birthdays jump between The Tower and Strength.
These dates follow the calendar year, as in Greer's method. If you count your year from birthday to birthday instead, your Tower year runs from your birthday in that year to your next one. When does a year card start?
