What a Lovers year means
The Lovers is often read simply as romance, but its older meaning is choice. In many traditional decks a young man stands between two figures and has to choose between them. As a year card it describes twelve months in which relationships and decisions are tied together: who you commit to, what you say yes to, and what those choices reveal about your values.
That can mean falling in love, deepening a partnership or ending one that no longer fits. It can just as easily mean a business partnership, a close friendship or a decision about where to live. The common thread is alignment: bringing what you do into line with what you care about.

With Greer's method your year card depends only on what your birth month and day add up to. In 2026, The Lovers is the year card for anyone whose month + day comes to 5 or 14: 16 birthdays. In 2027 the totals are 4 or 13, which gives 15 birthdays.

Before and after a Lovers year
Of the people with The Lovers in 2026, 12 had Temperance and 4 had The Hierophant in 2025, and all of them move on to The Chariot in 2027. Most years the card moves forward one step, but when your total crosses into a new decade (2049 to 2050, for example) the digits reset and the card drops back. That is why some birthdays jump between The Lovers and Temperance.
These dates follow the calendar year, as in Greer's method. If you count your year from birthday to birthday instead, your Lovers year runs from your birthday in that year to your next one. When does a year card start?
