The Chariot Tarot Year Card
A year of momentum: setting a direction, steering competing pulls and getting somewhere.
What a Chariot year means
The Chariot shows a driver riding forward behind two creatures, often one black and one white, that look ready to pull in different directions. In the Rider–Waite–Smith deck the driver holds no reins and steers by will alone. As a year card it describes a year of movement and effort: pursuing a goal, travelling, moving house or pushing a long project over the line.
The challenge built into the card is control. Momentum is easy to start and harder to steer, and a Chariot year often asks you to manage competing demands, such as work and home, ambition and rest, or what you want and what others expect, without letting either side pull you off the road.
Work, love and inner life
Work and money: Ambitious goals, deadlines, promotions and visible progress. Good for launches and for finishing what you started.
Love and relationships: Relationships that move forward, sometimes literally into a new home. Shared plans need both people pulling the same way.
Inner life: Discipline, focus and self-belief. Travel and physical challenges often feature.
Gifts of a Chariot year
- Real progress on a goal you care about.
- Confidence that grows with every obstacle you clear.
- The energy to travel, move or start fresh somewhere new.
- A clear direction after a period of drift.
What to watch for
- Pushing so hard that you burn out halfway.
- Steamrolling people who are not moving at your speed.
- Chasing speed rather than direction.
- Ignoring an inner conflict until it pulls you off course.
Working with your Chariot year
- Pick one main goal for the year and write down why it matters.
- Plan regular rest stops: progress is easier to sustain than to restart.
- When two demands collide, decide which one leads and which one follows.
Questions to reflect on
- Where am I going this year, and how will I know I've arrived?
- Which two forces in my life pull in different directions?
- What do I need to put down to move faster?
Who has The Chariot as their year card in 2026 and 2027?
With Greer's method your year card depends only on what your birth month and day add up to. In 2026, The Chariot is the year card for anyone whose month + day comes to 6, 15 or 24: 29 birthdays (about 8% of the year). In 2027 the totals are 5, 14 or 23, which gives 28 birthdays (about 8% of the year).
January 5, 2026: 1 + 5 + 2026 = 2032 → 2 + 0 + 3 + 2 = 7 → The Chariot

Before and after a Chariot year
Of the people with The Chariot in 2026, 17 had The Lovers and 12 had The Devil in 2025, and all of them move on to Strength in 2027. Most years the card moves forward one step, but when your total crosses into a new decade (2049 to 2050, for example) the digits reset and the card drops back. That is why some birthdays jump between The Chariot and The Devil.
These dates follow the calendar year, as in Greer's method. If you count your year from birthday to birthday instead, your Chariot year runs from your birthday in that year to your next one. When does a year card start?
